THE Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued its drive against unhygienic and adulterated food in various city areas and sealed many local hotels on Tuesday.

The Food Safety Officers inspected various hotels at Temple Road and sealed five hotels due to unhygienic conditions.

It is pertinent to mention here that the mafia is so strong that the PFA, which also issued a press release of this operation, did not even mention the name of a single hotel, which it sealed due to unhygienic conditions. A source in the PFA said this clearly means that the authority did not want to make public aware about such hotels and restaurants where food preparing conditions are found unhygienic.

During Tuesday’s operation, Food Safety Officers sealed another hotel in Chungi Amarsadhu area. Interestingly, the name of this hotel was also not mentioned in the official press release. Meanwhile, an ice factory in Tahiyat Pind was also sealed for not installing water filtration plant.

The team also imposed heavy fine on Chaman Ice Cream for unhygienic conditions. Why this ice cream seller was not sealed like the hotels which were sealed on similar charges was a big question, sources said, adding Food Safety Officers mostly avoided sealing big names due to influence.

On the other hand, a special taskforce of the authority confiscated 1080 liter milk after it was found hazardous and adulterated with water during the checking.

Sources said the authority was yet to initiate a bigger drive against the suppliers of adulterated milk in the provincial capital.

Lahorites have demanded the authority to make the names of the adulterators public and clearly expose them so that the public should avoid spending their hard earned money on adulterated and unhygienic products.

auction: An open auction of 10 shops of Parking Plaza at Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town and 18 commercial as well as residential plots of different housing schemes of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will be held on Tuesday (today) at LDA Community Centre.

The LDA officials said a total of 67 shops have been constructed in this 10-storey parking plaza where two floors have been exclusively reserved for shopping purpose. It can accommodate 400 vehicles and 500 bikes at a time.

A rooftop restaurant will also be constructed which will offer a bird’s eye view of the surroundings.

The plots to be auctioned by Lahore Development Authority are situated in Gujjarpura, Mustafa Town and Sabazazar and Fruit and Vegetable Market Allama Iqbal Town.
