FDA takes steps to curb adulteration of food during rains

Thane: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with the Thane district administration, has taken adequate steps to deter adulteration of food ahead of the monsoons. During the rains, many complaint of health problems after eating food.

The authorities have appealed to citizens to complaint on the toll-free number if they come across anyone selling adulterated and unhygienic food.

According to Suresh Annapure, joint commissioner of FDA, Konkan division, "As a precautionary measure, we have launched two toll-free numbers for citizens. We will ensure that action is taken against miscreants so that they refrain from indulging in such practices. As the monsoon is around the corner, we do not want to take any chances as this is the season during which residents complaint of various ailments."

Annapure said that officials will launch surprise raids at hotels, roadside stalls, stores and shops. Various teams have also been formed to nail the accused, said an FDA official. The toll-free numbers are 180022365 and 1800112100.
