Adulterated milk products worth Rs 5 lakh seized

BHOPAL: Cops on Wednesday busted a racket involved in smuggling adulterated mawa and paneer in huge quantities from Gwalior. They were being distributed to various dairy shop owners in and around teh city. Police seized a atruck load of adulterated mawa and paneer worth around Rs, 5 lakh and nabbed the truck driver.

The truck carrying the adulterated goods was caugth during a special vehicle checking being conducted at various spots ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The nabbed driver has revealed that he used to supply adulterated products in the city on a daily basis and used different routes to commute.

SHO Gunga SI DP Singh said that police had received a tip-off about adulterated mawa and paneer from Gwalio being supplied to the city using the Gunga route. The accused truck drivers used to take different routes on every trip to avoid police checking and supplied around 15-20 quintals of adulterated products on a regular basis.

SHO Singh said that acting on information, police along with officials from the food and drug administration department stopped a suspected minin truck from Gwalior, which was on its way to Bhopal via Berasia. The police team stopped the truck near Dupadia petrol pump at around 8 am.

When the truck was searched, the police team found 12.30 quintals of paneer and 3.5 quintals of mawa loaded in separate packing. The goods were worth Rs 5 lakh. When the FDA team examined the  samples of the mawa and paneer, they were found to be adulterated. The adulterated products were seized by the FDA team and a case was registered at Gunga police station.

SHO Singh said that the truck driver, identified as Naresh Baghel, (25), a resident of Gwalior told police that the goods were sent by Gwalior-based businessmen Mahesh Sharma and Lochan Singh. The adulterated products were to be supplied by a broker Vijay Anand alias Bunty, a resident of Aradhana Nagar in BHEL at various dairy shops at 7 number market, 11 number market and Itwara area.

Police said that a case has been registered against Anand in the past in which he was fined Rs2 lakh. Investigations are underway in the case.
