BATHINDA: With the aim of checking adulteration in milk during the upcoming festival season, the Punjab government has decided to give a reward of `10,000 each to people providing information about the manufacture of synthetic milk or sweets in the state.

This was stated by Punjab health minister Surjit Kumar Jyani here on Monday.

“We will take strict action against people caught producing artificial milk or sweets. With the purpose of making existing laws to check adulteration more stringent, we will add some sections to the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act,” he said.

Jyani was here to meet officials of the health department and the administration regarding efforts to control dengue.

When asked about the use of the rapid-card test for checking dengue, he said the Punjab government would ban the test since it was not authorised for dengue confirmation. When asked about the National Health Mission (NHM) workers’ demands, he said the process to regularise their services was underway and it would be completed within 30 days, following which confirmation letters would be given to the NHM workers.

Jyani said 3,147 positive cases of dengue had been reported in Punjab this season, including more than 800 from Bathinda.

He added that health department teams were surveying 1,000 houses daily in Bathinda to detect dengue larvae and make residents aware of the reasons behind the disease. “If the larvae are found in any house, the owner is fined `500,” Jyani said.

The minister was scheduled to inspect the civil hospital here, but he left the city without visiting the place.
